Moot Court Association
The Moot Court Association is one of the largest student participatory groups at CUA. It is a student run organization composed of students who share a strong interest in oral and written advocacy training. The appellate program is the largest in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The program includes intra-school competitions for Moot Court Associates and an inter-school competition, known as SoapBox, for first year potential associates.

How to become a member:
1L year:
Beginning in the first year of law school, we highly encourage students to participate in SoapBox to get a flavor of what appellate advocacy is all about. SoapBox is an interschool competition between strictly 1Ls and is typically held in late January early February. By participating in SoapBox, first year students are eligible to become Moot Court Associates in their second or third year. If you are a transfer student, please indicate so on your application and the SoapBox requirement will be waived. If you did not participate in SoapBoax your first year, you are not discouraged from applying for Moot Court, however preference will go to students who have participated in SoapBox their first year.
2L and 3L year:
The Moot Court teams are compiled through participation in the Moot Court Tryouts Competition. Packets are on sale in late August early September and the competition is usually held in late September. The competition problem is based on a current issue that is popular in the law at the moment. The issues come from anything such as constitutional law, criminal law, environmental law, tort law etc. Competitors are required to submit a brief and present an oral argument in front of a panel of judges. The competitors are scored based on their brief and their oral argument score. If you are chosen, you will be notified by the Chancellor of your acceptance onto any of the following teams:
o Environmental Law
o IP
o Jessup
o Constitutional Law
o National Security
o Sutherland
o Telecommunications
o Communications
